Niagara Falls man with history of gunfire is indicted on weapons charge

Kenyatta E. Austin, who served six years in state prison on a reckless endangerment charge for firing a gun in Buffalo in 2010, has been indicted in Niagara County for illegally possessing a loaded handgun in Niagara Falls.

Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon set bail at $200,000 for Austin, 25, of 27th Street in the Falls. He pleaded not guilty Wednesday to second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a gun that was found in a police search of his home July 3.

Sheldon set the bail after Assistant District Attorney Peter M. Wydysh told her that Austin had recently moved back to Western New York from South Carolina and was considered a flight risk if released.
