Medina's Melanie Green misses cut in USGA Junior girls golf

Melanie Green of Medina missed the cut Tuesday in the U.S. Golf Association Junior Girls Championship at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, Calif.
Green shot 6-over 77 on Monday and 76 on Tuesday for a 153 total. The cut was 151 and it involved 14 golfers at that number. Four playoff holes were needed to determine the final 10 qualifiers to start match play on Wednesday.
Green, the Section VI and state public schools girls champion, had an adventurous second round Tuesday on the fog-shrouded 6,195-yard Poppy Hills course. She had seven birdies, five on the front nine but that was offset by two bogeys and four double-bogeys or worse.

Green qualified for the national tournament by winning a qualifying tournament with a 74 at Windber CC in Salix, Pa. on June 14.
