Bills training camp isn't short on storylines. The recent LeSean McCoy drama adds a huge talking point to a camp that already features the highest-drafted quarterback in franchise history, a first-round linebacker that the defense hopes to build around, an offensive line that needs to be rebuilt and a receiving corps begging for a breakout star.
But tracking Shaq Lawson's performance may be an underrated storyline. The former first-round pick out of Clemson was drafted by the previous coaching regime, and he knows he needs to start making an impact.
"It's time for me to show why I got drafted in the first round,” Lawson said during spring practices. “It's time to do my job and not let these Bills fans down and the coaches down."
"Is Lawson ready to blossom now? Or never?" Mark Gaughan wrote. "The answer will begin to be seen when Lawson shows up for a make-or-break training camp with the Bills on July 26 in Pittsford."
Speaking of that wide receiving corps... This is a big training camp for Zay Jones, too, Vic Carucci wrote. Jones will need to rebound from a tumultuous offseason and prove he can be a productive NFL receiver after a standout collegiate career at the FCS level.
Jim Kelly to have earlier checkup after "something came up": Those are not words you want to hear when it relates to cancer, but Kelly is hoping the checkup is just a precaution. "If there is a little pain here (in a place where) you think there shouldn't be anything, you got to get it checked," Kelly said. He'll also receive the Jimmy V Award on Wednesday, given annually at the ESPYs to "a deserving member of the sporting world who has overcome great obstacles through perseverance and determination."
Bills announce ticket distribution for training camp practices: There are six special practices at Bills camp that require tickets. The tickets are free, but you'll have the visit stores to pick them up, starting Wednesday.
