Home of the Week: Touches of whimsy in a Hamburg colonial

Kathy Northway has enjoyed decorating her Village of Hamburg home through the years, and often gets the itch to rearrange the furniture.

Northway, a retired global studies teacher who worked at Frontier Central High School for 25 of her 37 teaching years, described her home in an email for our Home of the Week online feature:

“My house is a warm and inviting home; people tell me that all the time. I have a two-story, three-bedroom Ryan Homes white colonial built in 1967.

“My two favorite rooms in the house are the great room and the sun room. In the great room, we created a unique fireplace patterned after some we had seen in model homes in Orchard Park. Our mason was able to make it work, and it is now the focal point of that room.

“The sun room is probably my most favorite room. I love having a cup of coffee and reading my morning paper there or just taking in all of the sunlight or a thunderstorm.

“I enjoy decorating and changing the room arrangements, and I used MacKenzie-Childs whimsical designs as inspiration for the decor in the sun room,” she wrote.

Do you love your house enough to show it off? This could be your chance.
