Comedy on Tap: Rob Lederman, JP Sears and Rollergirl fundraiser

Unique perspectives on comedy highlight the week of July 19-25. Here’s what we’re eyeing up for big laughs this week:

You can’t write about the history of comedy in Buffalo without mentioning Rob Lederman, the veteran entertainer who has  survived several local booms and busts over the years. Lederman has become an audience favorite through regular gigs, fundraising appearances, and as a morning show personality on 97 Rock. He headlines his own club, Rob’s Comedy Playhouse, for shows at 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. July 21. Tickets are $10 and $12. Info: robscomedyplayhouse.com

Helium Comedy Club brings in humor of a different sort this weekend with headliner JP Sears. Sears is billed as “an emotional healing coach, international teacher, speaker at events, world traveler and curious student of life.” He grew a following through his funny inspirational YouTube series “Ultra Spiritual” on his “Awaken with JP” channel. Sears is set for five shows at Helium at 8 p.m. July 19, and 7:30 and 10 p.m. July 20 and 21. General admission tickets are $25 and VIP packages (including tickets, Q&A, photo and autograph) are $100. Info: buffalo.heliumcomedy.com

The “bad girls” of Buffalo roller derby, the Nickel City Renegade Rollergirls, are holding a fundraising comedy night at 7 p.m. July 21 at Milkies (522 Elmwood Ave.). Local comedian and Helium regular act Allie Brady will headline the event, which also features Nicole Beatty, Ryan Fay, Liz Reaves, Spencer Carr and host Shannon Dawn. The event will also have a basket raffle. Advance tickets are $10 (available from any team member) and $12 at the door. Info: facebook.com/buffalorollerderby
