Bashar Hall, 23, was arraigned on a charge of first-degree manslaughter today in Buffalo City Court in the Tuesday death of his girlfriend's 2-year-old son.
Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn said today the boy had been shaken and beaten although the autopsy is not complete.
The boy's mother was at home at the time along with Hall's two other children, a 1-year-old and a 2-month-old infant, according to a spokeswoman for the DA’s office.
Hall was ordered held on $500,000 bail by Buffalo City Court Judge Barbara Johnson-Lee. The public defender representing Hall at the arraignment said he has no criminal record.
Buffalo Police spokesman Michael J. DeGeorge said South District officers responded to a rescue call just before 2:40 p.m. at a residence at 47 Weaver St. in the city's Kaisertown neighborhood.
DeGeorge said the boy was transported to Oishei Children's Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Hall was placed under arrest at Buffalo police headquarters at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. He was still in the Weaver Street home when police arrived, Flynn said.
