Reddy Bikeshare offering discounts to mark its second anniversary

If you have yet to try Reddy Bikeshare, this would be a good week to do so.

The bike-sharing company and its leading sponsor, Independent Health, are marking the second full year of its service in Buffalo by giving away free annual memberships and sunglasses at several events.

Giveaways will happen, while supplies last, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday with Slow Roll Buffalo, which starts at 6:30 in Niagara Square. They will continue in the following locations:

Elmwood-Bidwell Summer Concert Series: 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Elmwood Avenue and Bidwell Parkway.

Fitness in the Parks freestyle barre class: Class starts at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Buffalo RiverWorks, 359 Ganson St. Reddy Bikeshare reps will be on hand from 5 to 7 p.m.

North Buffalo Farmer’s Market: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, 780 Parkside Ave.

Tunes at Noon: Noon to 1 p.m. Friday, One M&T Plaza.

East Side Bike Club Ride: 11:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday; the ride leaves at noon from the statue in Martin Luther King Jr. Park. This event also will note the bike-sharing programs most recent station at the Community Action Organization, 1423 Fillmore Ave.; as with the weekly Slow Rolls, this free ride is open to bicyclists of all skill levels.

“Watching the number of Slow Roll riders grow from week to week, we noticed the lack of diversity was not truly representative of our city," bike club founder George Johnson said in a news release. "Taking a look at possible reasons for it and ways to address some of the obstacles is how East Side Bike Club was formed. Our goal is to get more folks on bikes enjoying the fellowship and health benefits that come along with it, and our mission is to connect the community and promote a healthy and active lifestyle through safe cycling. We're so excited to see a new Reddy Bikeshare station on Fillmore Avenue, just up the road from where our ride begins.”

There are now 50 Reddy Bikeshare stations in Buffalo.

Memberships can be redeemed by signing up with a Reddy Bikeshare representative at those events. A limited number of $2 trial memberships also will be made available at the events and through Saturday online at or by downloading the Social Bicycles app. You'll need the promo code REDDYTURNS2, to redeem a membership during the payment process.
