Letter: Voters must undo the damage done by an ill-suited leader

Hypocrite! Children often hear “do as I say, not as I do” by unwitting parents. Being labeled one is, for me, truly cringe worthy. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, subverting behavioral norms in 2016, then switching to benefit his party in 2018 for Supreme Court nominations, is so defined by anyone aware of politics at its worst.

Persistent road blocking the special counsel’s probe of Russian interference in our 2016 Presidential election, hypocritical House Republicans searched in vain, for years, with baseless allegations of treason against Hillary Clinton.

Nothing, however, exceeds the hypocrisy within President Trump’s White House. Space prevents several egregious ones.

While preaching patriotism and wrapping himself in the flag, he omits five military deferments, escaping service to his country. Running for office, he led the chorus of “lock her up” Clinton bashing, which his idols, still, flaunt. Yet he, incessantly, trumpets his own innocence of collusion and abetting of Russian hacking into our election, before any, possible, felony charges. He promised to “drain the (Washington D.C.’s) swamp,” hoping to remove corruption and scandalous ethical behavior.

After 1 1/2 years, his “swamp” is, arguably, a cesspool. While disdain for rules that don’t suit his needs (tax returns anyone?) and ignoring the Constitution’s emolument clause, he feeds, daily, at the public trough, as he and his family pocket millions. It doesn’t take a genius to wonder if ill gotten gains doesn’t affect risky policy decisions that could put America in jeopardy.

Placing self preservation before country, Complicit congressional leaders and office holders are deaf to crying children torn from parents, mute to hypocrisy and blind to corruption. Hopefully this fall, Americans vote for justice and sanity, ending administration depravity, and fixing our broken democracy.
