Woman arrested for animal cruelty after claiming lost dog

A Town of Batavia woman was arrested on animal cruelty charges Tuesday after she came to the Genesee County Animal Shelter to pick up a lost dog previously in her care, State Police in Batavia reported.

Becky L. Frens, 56, was charged with overdriving, torturing and injuring animals, and failure to provide proper sustenance.

According to troopers, the dog, which had been found on Monday, "was diagnosed with multiple skin infections, mange, double ear infections, and had uncut nails so long that (it) could not walk."

The dog was kept for treatment at the Genesee County Animal Shelter and Frens was issued tickets to appear in Batavia Town Court.
