Akron schools to use state grant to buy tablets

Akron Central School District is one among 16 districts, schools and programs to receive grants from the Smart Schools Bond Act.

Akron will use the $112,760 to continue purchasing Chromebook devices for students. This is the third year of the four-year program. The district also is buying cases for the devices, Google licenses and spare power cords.

A total of $12 million in Smart School Investment Plans were approved in this round of the $2 billion bond act announced this month. The act supports investments in education technology and pre-kindergarten to equip students with the skills needed to thrive and succeed in the global economy.
