Comedy on Tap: Rod Man, Comics Against Humanity and double-bill at Rob's

Beat the heat with friends, food and fun with a funny lineup of comedy in mid-July. Here’s what we have our eye on this week:

Helium gets the week started July 12 with another round of “Comics Against Humanity,” a monthly local showcase with a twist. Host and former “Buffalo’s Funniest Person” winner Rick Matthews brings each comic to the stage and draws a selection from the “Cards Against Humanity” game. The comedian then must improvise a set based on the popular adult game, which offers inappropriate and offbeat suggestions like, “What has been making life difficult at the nudist colony?” The July show includes Clayton Williams, Jameel Key, Greg Bauch and Allie Brady. Showtime is 8 p.m. July 12. Tickets are $12. Info:

The weekend headliner at Helium is Rod Man with four shows over two nights on July 13 and 14. Rod Man got his start in the Atlanta comedy scene and made his name based on his laid-back style and southern charm. The comedian won NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” contest in 2014, and he has also made appearances on “ComicView,” “The Tonight Show” and “The Mo’Nique Show.” Showtimes for both nights are 7:15 and 9:45 p.m. Tickets range from $25 to $33. Over at Rob’s Comedy Playhouse, a rare double-bill with Jim Kurdziel and Joe Becker headlines a show at 8 p.m. July 14. A producer, personality and program director at 103.3 the Edge, Kurdziel has honed his comedy with more than a decade of experience, which includes opening for top acts like Colin Quinn. Becker is known for his high-energy comedy and recently opened for Kevin Hart. Tickets are $12. Info:
