Host club eights won the men’s Open and U17 and women’s lightweight, U19 and U17 races, but the St. Catharines Rowing Club outpointed the West Side Rowing Club in the 105th Buffalo West Side Invitational Regatta, which wrapped up Sunday on the Black Rock Channel.
St. Catharines crews racked up 245 points to 161 for the WSRC. The Buffalo Scholastic Rowing Association finished fifth among nine clubs competing with 35 points.
FCRC was third with 43 points while the Genesee Rowing Club of Rochester was fourth with 35 points.
West Side crews also triumphed in the men’s Open Fours and the women’s U19 events.
Among the St. Catharines victories were triumphs in the men’s U17, U19 and U19 light eights as well as the women’s Open Eights and both the men’s and women’s Open Fours races. The Canadians also were dominant in the women’s doubles, sweeping the first four places.
Next on the area rowing calendar will be the 57th annual St. Catharines RC Invitational Regatta on July 21 on Martindale Pond in St. Catharines, Ont. The Royal Canadian Henley Regatta will be Aug. 7-12, also in St. Catharines.
