She may not have launched a car into outer space or invented the pastime of our generation, but Colleen Wegman's employees at the Wegmans grocery chain like her better than Tesla's employees like Elon Musk or Facebook's employees like Mark Zuckerberg, according to a list of the "Top 100 CEOs", put out by Glassdoor.com, an employment website.
Wegman came in at No. 9 on the list, beating out Musk at No. 49 and Zuckerberg at No. 16, as well as other such high-profile CEOs as Apple's Tim Cook (No. 96), Costco's Craig Jelinek (No. 83) and General Motors' Mary Barra (No. 88).
Wegman scored an overall 97 percent approval rating, with 82 percent of employees saying they would recommend their employer to a friend. The most common praise that came from employees touted the company's flexible scheduling and benefits, while the most common gripe referred to a difficulty moving from part-time to full-time work, and a tendency for hours to vary for part-time workers.
At the top of the list of CEOs was Eric S. Yuan of Zoom Video Communications in California with a 99 percent approval rating, followed by Michael F. Mahoney of Boston Scientific in Massachusetts and Daniel Springer of Docusign in California.
The list was compiled using employee-submitted reviews and encompasses companies with 1,000 employees or more. A total of 1,780 Wegmans employees submitted reviews.
Colleen Wegman took over as president and CEO last year. Danny Wegman, Colleen Wegman's father, was president and CEO of the company until last year, when he became chairman.
