Williamsville plucks Amherst Bee journalist for community development post

A former Amherst Bee associate editor is Williamsville's new director of community development.

The Village Board last week voted to hire Keaton T. DePriest, who worked for the Bee for 13 years, including the last eight reporting on schools, government and community affairs in Amherst.

DePriest replaces Maggie Hamilton Winship, who joined Amherst town government in January. The village has a shared-services agreement with the town and pays Amherst $15,000, or one-fifth of Winship's town salary, for her work on economic development matters one day each week.

The 38-year-old Cheektowaga resident and SUNY Buffalo State graduate will oversee the village's public relations and communications, special event planning and online activities.

The $50,000-per-year job does not have a residency requirement. The village interviewed five candidates before hiring DePriest.
