The new Holiday Inn Express on Grand Island is now open for reservations, Grand Island Town Supervisor Nathan McMurray announced Tuesday.
Rudra Management and Rosewood Hotels has completed its five-year project to renovate and transform the long-vacant former Hooker/Dunlop office building into a new 105-room hotel, located at 2761 Long Road.
Set in a 72,000-square-foot building on 28.8 acres, the new three-story hotel includes a rooftop lounge, a breakfast bar area, a large lobby, two business meeting rooms, a fitness room and an indoor pool.
Constructed in the 1960s for Hooker Chemical & Plastics Corp., the building was taken over by Dunlop Tire in the 1970s, but has been vacant since Dunlop moved out in 1993.
Rudra CEO Jayesh Patel began taking on the $8.5 million project in 2013, with assistance from a $1 million Restore NY grant for asbestos abatement. Patel also had to overcome a challenge presented by an inadequate septic system.
McMurray said a grand opening event will be held in August.
