Two motorcyclists suffer serious injuries in separate accidents in Chautauqua County

Two motorcyclists were airlifted by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center with serious injuries after separate accidents Saturday afternoon in northern Chautauqua County, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office reported.

In a car-motorcycle collision about 1:40 p.m. on Route 39 in the Town of Hanover, the motorist also was hurt and was taken by Alstar Ambulance to a local hospital with minor injuries, deputies said. Officers provided no names or other details.

Then, about 3:45 p.m. at Route 20 and Lamberton Road in the Town of Pomfret, deputies said a 70-year-old motorcyclist from Clarence was distracted by a group of oncoming motorcyclists and did not see a vehicle in front of him stopping to turn left. Officers said the rider braked, lost control and hit the pavement.
