Distraught mourner charged after tombstones are toppled at Tuscarora Cemetery

A distraught mourner faces a criminal mischief charge after she drove over headstones in the Tuscarora Cemetery, Upper Mountain Road, Town of Lewiston, with her car becoming stuck atop two of them.

Niagara County sheriff's deputies were called to the cemetery recently and found a 24-year-old Sanborn woman crying at her brother's gravesite. She was taken for evaluation because officers said she was incoherent.

Her car was stuck atop a pair of toppled tombstones, and deputies said she had backed over three others. They reported finding an open container of alcohol inside her car, but said she was displaying no signs of intoxication at the time. She was charged with criminal mischief for the damaged tombstones, as well as some vehicle and traffic violations.
