The Greater Lockport Development Corp., the city development agency, approved three microenterprise grants to pay for equipment for new businesses Thursday.
Planning and Development Director Brian M. Smith said Salon Life 716 in City Center on Main Street was granted $14,500 and will create five full-time jobs.
Bear Bottom Wholesale on Ann Street received $13,000 and promised to create two full-time jobs.
JT's Fitness, a gym on Walnut Street operated by local boxer Joe Taylor, received $8,000 and will create one full-time job.
Smith said the awards officially are "deferred loans," which become grants if the companies use the money for equipment and stay in business in Lockport for at least two years.
