Hoak's Lakeshore, the tavern serving Hamburg since 1949, is expanding along Lake Erie to accommodate more customers.
The bar room at 4100 Lake Shore Road will be expanded by 400 square feet, in plans submitted to the Hamburg Planning Board on June 20.
"The bar area right now is a little small," said owner Kevin Hoak.
The addition would extend southwest of the current structure, adding 11 bar seats, for a total of 22. After another board meeting on July 11, the project should have permission to proceed, Hoak said.
More room should be good for business, said Hoak. "I think we'll be busier in general, because more customers will stay longer," he said. "Instead of being crammed into the old bar, it'll open up more of an atmosphere, basically right on the water."
The expansion also will offer a closer view of the lake, "almost to the fence by Lake Erie."
The new area will probably open in the fall, said Hoak. "Even in the dead of winter, we're still open and busy on the weekends," he said. "Even in winter, with snowstorms and whatnot, it seems like people really want to come down and enjoy the views."
