An 18-year-old was taken for a mental health evaluation Thursday night after authorities said he jumped off a Maid of the Mist boat below Niagara Falls.
State Park Police received a report of a person who went into the water off the tour boat below the Horseshoe Falls at about 6:45 p.m., the agency said in a news release. A Maid of the Mist crew on a utility boat was able to pull him out of the river.
The initial investigation determined the 18-year-old went into the water intentionally, the agency said.
The man, whose name was not released, was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.
Police credited the quick response of crews from the Maid of the Mist which, they said, "ultimately saved the man's life."
