Lake Ontario property owners who need work done to protect their properties from high water have more time to seek permission from the state.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation announced Thursday that the general permit deadline has been extended from Sept. 30 to April 30, 2019. Work must be completed by Sept. 30, 2019.
The DEC said more than 3,000 applications have been made for stone walls and other erosion control structures along the Lake Ontario shore since the agency issued a general permit last year. About 2,700 projects have been approved. The terms allow a single application to win approval simultaneously from the DEC, the Army Corps of Engineers and the New York Department of State.
Hundreds of lakefront property owners in Niagara County are awaiting state reimbursement for work already done.
