Rev. Stanislaw Dudek, 81, Polish-born priest served Southern Tier parishes

Rev. Stanislaw Dudek, who served as pastor for Catholic parishes in Perrysburg and South Dayton, died Sunday in Erie County Medical Center. He was 81.

Born in Laczki Brzeskie, Poland, he attended seminary in Sandomierz, Poland, where he was ordained June 16, 1962.

Father Dudek was an assistant pastor in churches in Poland, Australia, South Africa, Rhode Island, North Dakota and California before coming to Western New York in 1999.

He was parochial vicar at St. Hyacinth’s Church in Dunkirk, where he worked with Hispanic Catholics, and was temporary administrator of St. Joan of Arc Parish in Perrysburg and St. John Fisher Parish in South Dayton.

After he was incardinated into the Diocese of Buffalo in 2006, he served as pastor for the Perrysburg and South Dayton churches. He retired in 2008 after St. John Fisher Parish was closed and St. Joan of Arc Parish was merged into St. Joseph Parish in Gowanda.

Survivors include a brother, Ryszard; and three sisters, Janina Pieniek, Emilia Koleczko and Henryka Dudek.

Auxiliary Bishop Edward M. Grosz will be concelebrant for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 123 Townsend St.
