Marineland to close Wednesday for funeral of founder

Marineland, the amusement park and zoo in Niagara Falls, Ont., will be closed for the day Wednesday for the funeral of its owner and founder, John Holer, 83, who died Saturday in his Niagara Falls home, after a short illness.

It will reopen Thursday, park officials said.

Holer founded the park in 1961 with three sea lions and over the years turned it into one of the region’s leading tourist attractions.

His attorney, Andrew Burns, told the Niagara Falls Review on Tuesday it was too soon to discuss future plans for Marineland.
