Injured woman rescued from Niagara Gorge

Emergency rescue crews, with help from a Whirlpool Jet Boat, transported an injured woman from the Devil’s Hole State Park area in the Niagara Gorge about 3 p.m. Monday, State Park Police reported.

The woman, who was hiking with a small group, suffered a leg injury and was unable to climb out of the gorge, Park Police Sgt. Chris Gerlach said.

She was taken to the jet boat dock in Lewiston, then to Mount St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston for treatment.

“Park Police staff actually happened to come upon the victim,” Gerlach said. “They happened to be in the right place at the right time.”

They were assisted by the Upper Mountain Fire Company, Niagara Active Hose Company and Lewiston Fire Companies No. 1 and 2.
