A 78-year-old Ontario woman told Niagara Falls Police her purse was stolen from her car about 1:10 p.m. Saturday while she pumped gas at a downtown service station.
The woman pulled into the Seneca One-Stop, 621 Niagara St., police said, and left her purse on the driver's seat while she exited to pump gasoline. Then, she told officers, a tall, black man reached through the open driver's side window, grabbed the purse and fled north on Niagara Street.
The purse held the woman's car keys, credit cards, personal effects, $500 in American currency and $200 Canadian.
Police said the man was inside the service station's store before the theft and was clearly seen on surveillance video. Police have a tentative identification and are seeking a city man for questioning.
