Offer to spend the night turns costly for NYC man

A New York City man told Niagara Falls Police that he was robbed in his downtown motel room early Sunday by a woman he had met hours earlier on the street and who claimed to be homeless.

The victim reported to police that after he heard the woman's story of being homeless, he offered to allow her to spend the night in his room at the Red Coach Inn on Buffalo Avenue. He said that he took a shower around 2 a.m. Sunday and when he emerged less than 20 minutes later, she was gone.

So, too, were his laptop computer, cellphone, Fitbit watch, credit cards and $400 in cash, as well as other assorted personal effects. The man estimated his total loss in excess of $1,200.
