Lewiston seeks proposals from prospective Frontier House developers

The Village of Lewiston on Friday set an Aug. 8 deadline for expressions of interest from anyone might like to buy or lease the historic Frontier House.

The village signed a contract this week to buy the 194-year-old Center Street edifice from owner Richard A. Hastings for $800,000, but the deal allows the village to bail out within 120 days.

The notice seeks pitches from developers, restoration contractors, investors, engineering or architectural firms with experience in saving historic buildings. Those deemed worthy will be asked for formal proposals later.

"The village will consider restoration or development options that involve commercial, professional, residential or mixed use, and that comply with historical standards for this property listed on the National Historical Register," the document says.
