After shoplifting incident, Niagara Falls man has 2-year-old son taken away

Authorities were already seeking to remove a 2-year-old boy from his father's custody Friday when the man reportedly shoplifted steaks from a Niagara Falls supermarket and hid the meat inside the child's stroller.

Child Protective Services workers armed with an emergency removal order were trying to catch up with the man as he and the child's mother pushed the boy in a stroller outside the Tops Market on Portage Road around 10:20 a.m. Friday, apparently unaware that the man had just stolen $26 worth of meat from the store. They said that he tried to walk away before finally turning the child over to CPS workers.

Cornelius D. Brinson, 34, of Pine Avenue, was then arrested and charged with petit larceny and endangering the welfare of a child.
