A 50-year-old woman died after she was struck by a train late Thursday night in Wyoming County, according to the State Police.
At about 11 p.m. Thursday, a crew on a Norfolk Southern train heading east in the Town of Middlebury reported they believed the train had struck a bear or a deer, police said.
A train heading in the westbound direction shortly after 2 a.m. reported seeing what it thought might be a body near the tracks.
Troopers were called to the scene at about 3 a.m.
The woman was identified by police as Janette M. Moore of Middlebury. She was wearing dark-colored clothing at the time she was hit, police reported.
The train that struck Moore is in Binghamton. Her death remains under investigation.
