Officers were in the area of Oliver Street and 16th Avenue just before 9 a.m. keeping an eye on the bear, police said. Reports of bear sightings started being called into police around 8 a.m.

Police at the scene were awaiting the arrival of officials from the state Department of Environmental Conservation.

A bear was seen in the eastern part of Amherst on Thursday night. It was not clear whether it's the same bear seen this morning in North Tonawanda.
