Sabres announce 2018-19 regular season schedule

The Sabres won't have to wait nearly as long to see the Toronto Maple Leafs as they did last season.

The QEW rivals will square off in the first of four meetings on Dec. 4 in Buffalo, the 29th contest of Buffalo's 2018-19 campaign. The Sabres and the Leafs didn't play last year until March 5, Buffalo's 66 game.

This year's series continues in the second half of the season, as the Sabres will play at the recently renamed Scotiabank Arena on Feb. 25 and March 2 before it wraps up in Buffalo on March 20.

The wait to see the defending Stanley Cup champion is slightly longer. Buffalo will play the Washington Capitals three times in 2018-19, starting with a Dec. 15 game at Capital One Arena. The two teams will play again in Washington on Dec. 21 before Alexander Ovechkin and company make their lone visit to Buffalo on Feb. 23.

Buffalo will be done with Washington's Cup counterparts, the Western Conference champion Vegas Golden Knights, after the first two weeks of the regular season. The Sabres host the Knights on Oct. 8, the third game of a season-opening four-game homestand, and visit the Sin City on Oct. 16.

The Rangers will visit KeyBank Center on Oct. 6, their first trip to Buffalo since they posted a 2-1 overtime win on Feb. 2, 2017. The lone Sabres home game between the two teams last year was moved to Citi Field for the Winter Classic, marking the first time an NHL team did not play in the site of another team since the league went to a balanced schedule in 2013. The Rangers will be back again in Buffalo this season on Feb. 15.

Evander Kane will play against his former team for the first time on Oct. 18 when the San Jose Sharks host the Sabres. He'll play in Buffalo for the first time since the trade on Nov. 27. Patrick Kane will make his annual pilgrimage to his hometown on Feb. 1, while the Sabres will visit Chicago on March 7.

The Sabres will face two five-game road stands, including the traditional Western swing featuring Arizona, Vegas, San Jose, Los Angeles and Anaheim. That trip includes the Sabres' first back-to-back when they'll face the Kings and Ducks on Oct. 20 and 21, respectively. They'll be home for the first half of February, a seven-game homestand running from Feb. 1-15.

The home opener, set for Thursday, Oct. 4 against the Boston Bruins, was released on Wednesday.

The season concludes with three out of four at home, with the finale coming on April 6 at the Detroit Red Wings.
