Man pleads guilty in North Tonawanda beating that put victim in coma

One of two men accused of brutally beating a man Nov. 30 on a North Tonawanda street corner pleaded guilty to second-degree assault Monday before Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon.

Assistant District Attorney Kevin D. Canali said the victim, a man in his 50s, underwent multiple surgeries for bleeding and swelling in his brain and was placed in a medically induced coma for a time. Canali called the attack "drunken debauchery" and said he doesn't think the attackers knew the victim.

Eugene R. Guerra IV, 24, of West Oak Street, Olean, could go to prison for as long as seven years when he is sentenced July 16.

Charges are pending against Devin Gamble, 20, of East Robinson Street, North Tonawanda, regarding the attack at Oliver and Robinson streets.
