Tough laws would curb careless driving habits
A recent letter rightly deplores the speeding of drivers on the I-290. Unhappily, drivers also routinely ignore speed limits on Main Street, Niagara Falls Boulevard, Elmwood Avenue, Englewood Avenue, Highland Parkway and Irving Terrace, endangering the lives of pedestrians and young students and infuriating geezers like myself.
Automatic $1,000 fines for drivers exceeding the posted speed limit by 7 miles per hour might produce the desired behavior modification from motorists. Laws requiring the confiscation of cellphones used by drivers while driving and by pedestrians while crossing streets should also be enacted.
