Buffalo's newest park, Jesse Clipper Square, to be dedicated on Memorial Day

A dedication and ribbon-cutting for Buffalo’s newest park, Jesse Clipper Square at Michigan Avenue and William Street, will be held during a Memorial Day service in the square at 11 a.m. Monday.

The ceremony, led by Jesse Clipper Post 430, American Legion, will include remarks by Mayor Byron W. Brown, Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz, Common Council President Darius Pridgen, Assemblywoman Crystal Peoples-Stokes and State Sen. Tim Kennedy, among others.

Jesse Clipper Square, which includes a monument to African-American veterans from World War I to Afghanistan, is part of the William Street redevelopment project. It is named in honor of a soldier from Buffalo who was the first African American to die in World War I.
