Resurgence pours a sour, IPA
Resurgence Brewing Company (1250 Niagara St.) will release two beers in late May. The first, black currant kettle sour, is the return of an old favorite featuring a seamless mix of berry and currant flavors, with a light tart mouthfeel (5.5 percent alcohol by volume, available May 23).
The second beer is the newest New England-style IPA (India pale ale) in Resurgence’s line of research and development beers, R&D #13 (6.5 percent ABV, available May 30). Call 381-9868.
Pearl Street raises the potency of its hefeweizen
Pearl Street Grill and Brewery (76 Pearl St.) recently released its new beer, Wild Stallions Imperial Hefeweizen. This high-ABV take on the brewery’s popular Wild Ox Wheat has all of the familiar characteristics of the house Hefe, but in a 7.6 percent ABV package. Call 856-2337.
Lafayette Brewing Company heralds its hops
Lafayette Brewing Company (391 Washington St.) has recently brought back its best-selling seasonal beer, Cheaters IPA. Brewed with hops so good it’s "like cheating," the medium-bodied beer features Citra, Amarillo and Simcoe hops for a tropical and aromatic beer (7 percent ABV). Call 856-0062.
Five & 20 offers hands-on session
Five & 20 Spirits & Brewing (8398 W. Main St., Westfield) will offer aspiring hobbyists the opportunity to be Distiller for a Day at its event on at 10 a.m. June 2.
For $85 (limited tickets available at eventbrite.com), attendees will have an opportunity to work with the distilling team to learn about the inner workings of a grain-to-glass craft distillery. The roughly five-hour work day will include an exclusive spirits sampling, lunch from onsite kitchen Bird and a commemorative T-shirt. Pre-registration is required by May 27. Call 793-9463.
Rusty Nickel sets third birthday festivities
Rusty Nickel Brewing Company (4350 Seneca St., West Seneca) will celebrate its third anniversary with a party from noon to 11 p.m. June 2. The all-day celebration will include live music, food, beer pairings, custom cocktails (including its award-winning Bloody Mary), spirits and hard cider. Big Ditch boasts two releases
Big Ditch Brewing Company (55 E. Huron St.) will release a second run of Dibble (the fourth in its Lock IPA series of beers) at 11 a.m. May 25. Four-packs of the beer will be available for $13.99.

12 Gates details Rock the Gates
Featuring musical acts such as XOXO and The A-List as well as the release of a special tropical stout called Ancient Chaos, the festival's general admission tickets are $10 in advance, or $15 at the door, and it includes one free beer.
