Tonawanda middle school student approached by man in minivan

Town of Tonawanda police said Friday a middle school student on her way to school was approached by a man who asked her to get into his minivan.

The incident happened at about 7:40 a.m. in the area of Lincoln Park Drive and Claremont Avenue. The man was described as white, in his 20s, and tall with a lean build and brown hair. He was wearing beige cargo shorts, a grayish/black T-shirt and sneakers, according to police.

He was driving a black van, possibly a Dodge Caravan, with tinted windows.

The Benjamin Franklin Middle School student told police the man rolled down his window and asked her to get into the minivan. After she refused, the man stepped out of his vehicle and the girl ran to school, police said. She was unharmed and school officials contacted her family.
