Catholic parish in Lockport plans financial skills classes for low-income residents

A charitable organization operated by St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Lockport is seeking funding and instructors for a planned program of financial skills classes, targeted at the 17 percent of Lockport residents who live below the poverty line.

Michael Boron, director of Community Outreach at St. John's, said Friday that he has applied to foundations for about $5,000 needed to fund a series of six classes this fall, to be titled "It'$ All About You."

Boron said the classes would answer the questions, "How do you make more of what you have? How do you make decisions that might produce another few bucks?"

He said those interested in helping the program should call the outreach center at 433-5252.
