A 20-year-old man who was shot in the leg Sunday evening ran into more trouble Thursday when a judge doubled his bail on drug charges he faces.
Ismat Hassan was still on crutches when he appeared before Judge Sheila A. DiTullio in Erie County Court. He has been free on $15,000 bail while awaiting resolution of several felony drug charges against him.
Assistant District Attorney Paul Williams requested the court date to alert the judge that Hassan had been shot since his last court appearance.
The judge, who previously put Hassan on probation in another case, reviewed additional information about Hassan, including that law enforcement has designated him a suspected gang member.
“There’s clearly a lot going on here,” DiTullio said.
The judge doubled his bail to $30,000 and he was taken into custody.
