Obie heats up as top 32 advance to double-elimination match play

Qualifying is complete. Now the 55th George A. Obenauer Masters Tournament gets interesting with five former champions among the top six bowlers through the eight-game, two-night qualifying stages of the tournament at AMF Airport Lanes.

West Seneca's Mike Faliero followed up Tuesday's series of 928 with a 919 four-game set to finish with a top, two-day qualifying total of 1,847. Lockport's Brad Angelo followed with a 1,831 after rolling a 908. Both are past champions.

Curtis Foss of Medina stands third with a 1,770, tied with former champion Ryan Ciminelli. Past Obie winner Jack Jurek (1,746) and defending tournament champion Kevin Bienko (1,723) followed.

The top 32 after Wednesday's qualifying advanced to the double-elimination match play portion of the tournament which begins Thursday night.  The tournament runs through Sunday.

Others who advanced to match play are Dana Voytovich, Justin Sokolowski, Joe Burgio, Ryan Reese, Mike Zarcone, Jason Ciliberto, Andrew Herbert, Mike Firzak, Pat Brick, Mike Mallwitz, Andy Ochal, Tim Wanat, Steve Kosut, Joe Wagner, Mike Johnson, Andy Rettig, Dave Kirsch, Rob Piccoli, Jon Kroll, Tom Sorce, Branden Simone, Bill Swiat, Thomas Tucker, John Palmer, Zane Tester andDave Tolkacz.
