Baker Mayfield was selected No. 1 overall by the Cleveland Browns in last month's NFL Draft, but he insists that he did not know he would be selected in that spot until he heard from Browns General Manager John Dorsey.
Mayfield said Thursday on Sirius XM Radio that he thought the Browns would select Josh Allen if they did not select him. Allen, of course, was selected by the Bills at No. 7 overall.
"About three or four days leading up to the draft, I had a feeling that it was between Josh Allen and I, but I never knew (I was going No. 1). I never knew until I got the call. I never knew for sure," Mayfield said.
"I had a good feeling it was between Josh Allen and I. I’m not really sure why. I had a dream about it and it was all just sorta coming into focus. I didn’t try to stress about it too much because it would have just driven me crazy, having anxiety about where I could have ended up."
Mayfield's first training camp and his potential battle with Tyrod Taylor figure to be among the themes for "Hard Knocks" this summer. The Browns were selected for the HBO reality series.
"Hard Knocks wouldn't be there if we weren't 0-16 last year," Mayfield said. "So, we're working towards never having to have that situation again. I'm looking forward to being a start of something new there in Cleveland."
