HEADS AND TAILS – Headway of Western New York, which supports people with brain injuries, hosts its 19th annual gala, “Spring Carnevale,” from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Atrium at Rich’s, 1 Robert Rich Way at West Ferry Street, with games, food stations, an open bar, entertainment and a raffle with more than 100 baskets. Tickets are $55 today, $60 on Thursday, and are available at headwayofwny.org.

Owls and horses will be shown and cats and dogs will be available for adoption at the Rally for Rescued Pets Spring Expo from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in Weber Post 898, Veterans of Foreign Wars, 2909 South Park Ave., Lackawanna. There also will be numerous vendors, a cash bar and a variety of food items, including barbecued chicken and ribs from Weidner’s. Admission is free.

The second annual Vets Fest to help offer help and information for veterans will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in AMVETS Post 13, 25 Review Place, in Buffalo’s Riverside neighborhood. Open to all men and women retired, on active duty or in the reserves, it features free haircuts, medical info, a backpack filled with items, a T-shirt, food from local restaurants and music from the Buffalo Dolls and Ann Philippone. GRAB A PLATE – New Hope United Methodist Church, 2846 Seneca St., West Seneca, will host a free community meal beginning at 4 p.m. Friday. The menu includes roast pork, potato, vegetable, apple sauce and dessert. Free will offerings are welcome.

HERE’S THE BEEF – St. John XXIII Church in Cheektowaga will hold a meat raffle Friday in Father Justin Council 5670, Knights of Columbus, 2735 Union Road, Cheektowaga. Doors open at 6 p.m. First draw at 7. Tickets are $6 advance, $40 for a reserved table of eight, and include beer, wine and pop. Outside snacks are allowed. Call 408-6476 or 725-2415.

St. Luke Lutheran Church in Cheektowaga will hold its semi-annual meat raffle Saturday in the Polish Falcons Hall, 445 Columbia Ave., Depew. Doors open at 6 p.m. Raffle begins at 7.
