Get ready to rumble for walleye on Lake Erie. The Southtowns Walleye Association of WNY will be hosting its 34th Annual Walleye Tournament June 9 to 17 – bigger and better than ever. There is a deadline to enter and that’s June 8 at 8 p.m. at the group’s club house located at 5895 Southwestern Blvd., Hamburg.
Coordinated by the largest walleye club in the country, this contest pays back 200 places. There is a new prize structure and more money will be given away at the top end, all based on the weight of a single fish. Minimum length to weigh in is a 26-inch ‘eye. Check out the details of weigh stations and hours at www.southtownswalleye.org.
There are some details that you need to pay attention to, such as you must be a club member to be able to compete ($35). In addition, the main tournament cost is $50. There are other options that you can buy, such as a four-day Calcutta for $40 and a nine-day Calcutta for $100. There’s an optional $5 Walleye Wallet, too. If it sounds a little intimidating, stop down to the Southtowns Walleye monthly meetings, slated for May 17 and June 7 at 7:30 p.m. There will be qualified tournament personnel in attendance to answer all your questions.
