A bipartisan gesture deserves our applause
An interesting and unfortunately very rare event has been taking place recently on our local Buffalo television stations.
A Buffalo Democratic Congressman, Brian Higgins, and a Southern Tier Republican, Tom Reed, appeared together in a TV spot supporting efforts to increase funding for mental health. The TV time was paid for by the generosity of the Patrick P. Lee Foundation.
No one can deny the importance of investing public dollars in a disease that has affected one in four people in Western New York and the entire nation. What is so impressive is that in an environment of tremendous political partisanship, two members of different parties got together as Americans first and foremost to work together to help our community and county. They should be congratulated on their bipartisanship to benefit us, as should Lee for his generosity.
Can you imagine what we could accomplish as a community and country if this were the rule rather than the exception?
