Dr. Jerome V. Jakubiak, 82, physician and Scout leader

May 28, 1935 – May 13, 2018

Dr. Jerome V. Jakubiak, of Elma, an internist, died Monday in Harris Hill Rehabilitation Center. He was 82.

Born in Buffalo, he was a 1953 graduate of Canisius High School and a 1957 graduate of Canisius College. He completed medical school at Georgetown University in 1961.

He served in the Navy as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Naval Hospital in St. Albans.

A specialist in internal medicine and nephrology, he maintained a private practice in Cheektowaga, retiring in 2009. He served as chief resident at St. Joseph Hospital and was a staff physician at Mercy Hospital.

An Eagle Scout, he was a member of the Order of the Arrow and the Brotherhood for Order of the Arrow. He was a Scout leader for many years at St. Gabriel’s Parish and took the Philmont Expedition twice with his son, Martin, and several canoeing expeditions in Canada.

His wife of 50 years, the former Sylvia Grutzmann, a medical secretary, died in 2012.

Survivors include two daughters, Wendi and Sheila Murphy; two sons, Eric and Martin; a sister, Elaine Robinson; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6441 Seneca St., Springbrook.
