The Irishman Pub & Eatery in Williamsville hopes to open its new outdoor bar and dining area by late May or early June.
The restaurant at 5601 Main St., next door to the Amherst Municipal Building, is constructing a covered, open-air space with a full bar, fire pit surrounded by couches and high-top tables with seating for about 40 people, said Maria MacPeek, the general manager.
The covered bar extends out toward Main Street from the restaurant. It will have TVs for watching Bills games and other sporting events and tower space heaters to allow it to stay open well into the fall.
Just to the side, directly in front of the restaurant, the Irishman is setting up an open area that will host outdoor dining, at 10 to 12 umbrella tables, when it's nice out and will offer parking spaces when it gets cold and snowy.
MacPeek said the Irishman wanted to offer people another place along the Main Street corridor where they could enjoy a drink or a meal outdoors during Buffalo's limited warm weather.
Work began at the beginning of April and as of Wednesday, it appeared the frame of the covered bar area was completely in place.
"They're moving right along now," MacPeek said.
The Irishman's rear patio already is open for the season.
