Officials to learn about locating solar facilities in their communities

With the growing popularity of solar power, Allegany County is providing an all-day workshop for local municipalities on siting solar facilities in their communities.

The Allegany County Office of Planning is working with NYSERDA's NY-Sun Office to offer the program from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 30 at the Crossroads Center in Belmont. The free workshop is geared toward mayors, supervisors, assessors, code enforcement officers, planning and zoning board members, and legal counsel for municipalities.

Topics include planning and zoning for solar energy systems, permitting and inspections, PILOT agreements, siting on farmlands and in state agricultural districts, model solar energy laws and more.
