A battle is brewing for bass enthusiasts as the Spring Border War is set for Saturday, May 5. Each year, the Western New York Bassmasters and the St. Catharines Bassmasters of Ontario, Canada face-off for a head to head skirmish on the water to see who walks away as the top club. This is an open tournament and the New York contingent has been short-handed in recent years. They could really use some support from local fishermen.
The concept is simple. Two-person teams head out into the lake at 7 a.m. and return at 3 p.m. Angler teams can keep two bass and the minimum size is 20-inches in length for each. Best two fish weight wins cash prizes, just like a normal team bass event for this time of year. For international bragging rights, the top five teams from each side of the border are tallied up to see who the winner is. St. Catharines is the defending champion in the friendly contest.
