Unprovoked attack with concrete block results in 10-year prison term

A 22-year-old Buffalo man who goes by the nickname "Crazy Boy" was sentenced Monday to 10 years in prison for attacking another man with a brick last August.

Charles Fonville reportedly became upset when he saw a man walking down the street and talking on his cellphone at about 10 p.m. on Aug. 30. Fonville yelled at the man to stay away from his mother's house, according to the District Attorney's Office. The man responded that he wasn't doing anything but talking on the phone.

At that point Fonville smashed the man in the face and head with a concrete brick. The man was critically injured and continues in his recovery after being in an induced coma for a month.

Fonville pleaded guilty to assault in the first degree in March before Judge Michael Pietruszka. In addition to the 10-year prison term, the judge ordered five years post-release supervision.
