Deputy Buffalo Police Commissioner Kimberly L. Beaty is leaving the department to become Canisius College's director of public safety, the college announced Monday.
Beaty plans to retire from the police department in June, according to the college's announcement. She will replace Wil Johnson, who plans to retire in May after three years at Canisius.
Beaty became deputy commissioner in July 2014 after serving as chief of the department's Northeast District. She has worked for 31 years in the department.
Beaty holds a bachelor's degree in communication studies from Canisius.
