Sunday fun day

Clarence gained a small measure of revenge against the team that ended its season last year, as it defeated Section V champion McQuaid, 4-3. Will Hurwitz tossed a complete game five-hitter for the win. Aiden Wallace (two hits, two RBIs) hit a two-run double and scored the winning run during a three-run sixth. He also threw out the potential game-tying run at the plate from left field in the seventh. Jack Putney went 3 for 3 for the winners.

Coming attractions

Some intriguing matchups on the docket this week.

  • In girls lacrosse, defending Section VI Class A champion Frontier visits old friend and runner-up Lancaster at 5 p.m. today. Later in the day, the battle of West Seneca as West hosts East. On Tuesday, a clash between Class B contenders as Hamburg hosts Niagara Wheatfield under the lights at Howe Field. Also Tuesday, Orchard Park hosts Lancaster, while Frontier entertains Clarence.
  • In boys lacosse, a battle of ranked teams at Quaker Field as Orchard Park hosts Clarence at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Also Wednesday, newcomer City Honors plays host to Frontier.
